Longeville-sur-Mer, a hidden gem on the Côte de Lumière
Les Brunelles campsite is located in Longeville-sur-Mer, a seaside resort whose name comes from the Latin “Longa Villa”, inherited from the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Michel-en-l’Herm who reclaimed the marshland centuries ago. The village has preserved its authentic Vendée character, with a Friday morning market, a Romanesque church dating back to the 11th century, and bakeries offering local specialities such as gâche, brioche, fions and préfou.
Les Conches beach (5 km from Les Brunelles camping resort) remains wild, with its 8-metre-high dune and exceptional pine forest. Surfers gather here when the Atlantic swell rises, while children collect pearlescent shells found nowhere else.
You can reach the beach by bike thanks to La Vélodyssée cycle route, which starts directly from Camping Club Les Brunelles and leads to La Tranche-sur-Mer (11 km) or Les Sables d’Olonne (36 km) without crossing a single road. “For hikers and cyclists, the trails and cycle paths are perfect,” confirms a couple who stayed with us.
